Mute is Lord Agony's sixth general, as well as the sixth boss fought in Lock's Quest. He is the Clockwork Magician general.

Appearance[]

Mute Idle

Mute appears as a large, Clockwork Magician, but with several major differences. Like all Clockwork generals, Mute is made of red armor. He lacks a wizard hat, and his robe is dark gray, with a red flag on both sides, and the silver pattern on the flag is now larger and slightly more detailed. Mute also has white eyes and mouth, and his magic orbs are yellow instead of red.

Personality[]

Mute's intelligence

A demonstration of Mute's strategic planning.

Mute is described as very loyal to Agony, shown when he attempts to prove himself to Agony that he is superior by destroying Lock and Heathern, but ultimately fails. Mute is also shown to be very strategic, as he seemingly let Heathern take out the Clockworks guarding him, and before Heathern can do anything to him, Mute reveals has several Elite Burrowers surround Heathern.

Abilities[]

Mute possesses the general abilites of Clockwork Magicians. He can cast elemental earth magic spells to attack his targets. However, his magic seems to be even more powerful, as not only does it deal more damage, but Mute can also fire multiple rocks and flames at once.

Due to the sheer amount of power he possesses, Mute is completely resilient against the nullifying effects of the Anti-Magic Field traps. However, this is only present in the original game, in the remastered port, he is affected like Magicians and Healers.

Mute can also turn invisible,[1] and in Siege, he attacks the tower by casting electrical energy orbs, which deals 200 damage.

History[]

During the Second Clockwork War[]

Sometime between the events of Shellrock Cape and Marshe Lowlands, Mute and his army were assigned to conquer both Source Wells at Dark Ridge, as well as successfully overwhelming Kingdom Force and Archineers.[2]

Mute appears in Siege at Antonia South, fought on Day 20. He behaves exactly like Magicians in Siege mode, but he requires 25 normal shots to kill, or alternatively, 9 explosive shots. When destroyed, he drops 750 Source. During his battle, he is supported by Silver Soldiers and Silver Brutes.

Mute later appears at Dark Ridge, with his armies of Silver Clockworks and Elite Clockworks continuing to conquer both Source Wells, which have already been damaged.[3][4] Eventually, they conquer the southeastern Source Well and overwhelm Kingdom Force further. Mute eventually makes his encounter with Lock. Mute sends two Elite Brutes to destroy him, but is saved by Heathern.[5]

When Heathern attempts to attack Mute solo, she is ambushed by several Elite Burrowers, with Mute severely injuring her by casting fire magic. He then taunts Lock into fighting him, which leads to his ultimate destruction.[1]

Boss battle[]

Main article: Mute/Guides

Mute will come from either the south or northeastern entry point, depending on the version of the game. Mute will walk up to the walls and turrets and starting using his magic. He can also cast multiple rocks or flames at once, which has a high chance of destroying 2 or 3 structures. Only in the original game, Mute can resist the effects of the Anti-Magic Field trap. Lock should just keep Mute distracted from attacking the turrets until his HP is low enough before he is defeated, ending the day successfully.

Hall of Heroes[]

Mute makes an appearance in the Hall of Heroes, named after Edison Yang. He can be found in the south room of the hall, leading to an area based off Marshe Lowlands.

Relationships[]

Allies[]

Mute is one of Lord Agony's creations and worthy to be titled his "best general". As such, Mute offers the highest amount of loyalty towards Lord Agony of any other Clockwork (despite the two never meeting each other on-screen). It was proven he would go towards full lengths to prove he is superior towards Lord Agony.

Mute also commanded armies of Silver and Elite Clockworks to attack at Dark Ridge, and seems to treat them with utmost respect. The Clockworks were even willing to sacrifice their lives in order to carry out Mute's plans, shown when an Elite Knight and Elite Brute don't put up much of a fight against Heathern.

Foes and rivals[]

Like all other Clockworks, Mute fights against all Archineers and Kingdom Force. He does, however, seem to grow an attachment towards Lock, which quickly turns into a bitter rivalry. Mute also severely injured and almost killed Heathern, in excuse for Lock to fight against him.

Out of all of the generals in Lock's Quest, Mute gains the most interaction with Lock.

Cultural references[]

  • Mute is similar to Kamek from the Mario franchise, as both are high-ranking magician generals in their respective armies (Clockworks for Mute, and the Koopa Troop for Kamek), and are quite loyal to their respective masters (Lord Agony for Mute, and Bowser for Kamek).
